While the growth rate of the global freight market is slowing down in Russia, his volumes continue to fall. This situation occurs in part because of the Russian industry. But even in the current environment, some airlines in the country are on the rise.

A considerable part of the goods from the carriers went to the car.

According to Rosaviation, for the first six months of 2019, the volume of freight traffic of Russian airlines decreased by 4.3% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 526,8 tons more freight turnover fell by 6.6%, to 3.5 billion tons.

On the waves of cyclical

Interviewed by the correspondent of “air transport review” operators noted that the Russian air cargo market repeats the negative trends prevailing in the international market. The reasons lie in macroeconomic factors — in particular related to Brexit trade uncertainty in Europe and a trade war between the US and China. Even IATA has changed its forecast to 2019, according to which the global turnover will increase only by 2.0% instead of 3.7%, as previously expected.

In the largest Russian cargo air group “Volga-Dnepr” (which includes carriers AirBridgeCargo, “Volga-Dnepr” and Atran) noted that the global freight market is cyclical and for every rise has always followed a fall. Today the market is in a phase of decrease, which is caused by many factors. In addition to growing trade protectionism affected by the relocation of production facilities from the Chinese of the region to other countries in South-East Asia (Vietnam, Bangladesh, Cambodia). China is no longer so cheap and easy choice for manufacturers. For air carriers is, on the one hand, means developing a network and opening of new markets, and on the other — a challenge, since in many airports these countries the infrastructure is not ready to service large volumes of cargo, especially special.
